Beauty and the Bees: Introducing Farmacy

Editor's note:

Living in Houston, it's been hard to focus the past few weeks on anything other than Hurricane Harvey and relief efforts. However, it's time for us to get back to doing what we do best. We hope you enjoy the blog and look forward to our more regular schedule, as much as we enjoy writing it!

I am generally a product loyalist; I find what works for my skin, and don't venture too far. I've been using the same couple of skincare lines for over a decade. However, when friend and designer Cesar Galindo asks that you meet one of his besties who is in Houston from NYC to talk beauty, it's hard to resist the invitation. That's how I found myself speaking to Farmacy co-founder Mark Veeder, and learning about his "farmer cultivated, scientist activated" line of skin care products.

What I like most about Farmacy is that it is truly farm-to-skin - using and cultivating products found and made in nature, organically and sustainably. In the words of the brand, "Echinacea GreenEnvyTM honey – made exclusively by bees living on the Farmacy farm in upstate New York – is chock-full of potent natural antioxidants, helping to keep skin damaging pollutants at bay. These bees not only produce the brand’s rare honey; they also pollinate the farm’s 30,000 Echinacea GreenEnvy flowers. GreenEnvy, a unique patent-protected variant of Echinacea Purpurea, was discovered by Farmacy co-founder Mark Veeder, who noticed an unusual green flower growing on his property in Sullivan County, NY. Through scientific testing, he found that it was a rare form of EchinaceaPurpurea, 300% more powerful than any other tested Echinacea Purpurea as it contains a high concentration of the phytochemical Cichoric Acid, a powerful natural antioxidant that heightens the hydrating and brightening benefits of honey."

Although Farmacy is a young brand, the enthusiasm has been huge - out of the gate, the products were picked up by QVC and Sephora. After speaking to Mark and having the opportunity to sample a few of the 26 products (all created with his Korean skin care expert partner, I may add), I too am an enthusiastic convert.

Mark's mission is completely delivered throughout the entire brand experience, from its socially conscious ethos, products and packaging to its price points. “The spirit of Farmacy is about working with farms and farmers globally. We celebrate and help bring their ingredients to life with the strength of our world class scientists to deliver highly effective products that are also a pleasure to the senses.”

For ten days, I exclusively used a sampling of Farmacy's products including Green Clean makeup meltaway cleansing balm, Honey Drop lightweight moisturizer, Sleep Tight firming night balm, Skin Dew hydrating essence mist and spray, and New Day gentle cleansing grains, along with a few other products on occasion, such as the Honey Savior all-in-one skin repair salve, Lip Bloom in honey ginger, and one of the Clear Day hydrating coconut gel mask medley.

One of the things I loved the most was the seriously lightweight feel of the products. They were gentle and effective - my skin felt super clean and soft with no chemical or stringent smells or adverse reactions. I also love the price point - pocket book friendly, while still maintaining a socially conscious status, at $16.50 for a lip balm to $66 for an entire anti-aging three product kit. The eye cream is on my "must try" list but alas, it's currently sold out on the website.

We have partnered with Farmacy to offer a giveaway for (1) winner!
