In looking at African-American women emerging as leaders to the national forefront, Entertainment Attorney Jalene M. Mack will not be overlooked. Jalene is not only an entertainment attorney but has successfully integrated the demanding roles of wife, mother, actress, playwright, producer, writer and founder of a performing arts nonprofit by keeping the focus on her long-term goal “to make an impact on the entertainment industry.”

Born on January 10th in Kansas City, Missouri, Jalene was raised from the age of seven in the City of New Orleans where her sense of “involvement and participation” was established and nurtured through collective community celebration of culture and the arts. Educated through the Catholic school system and immersed in dance and theater from childhood, Jalene developed a deep rooted passion for the arts with an emphasis on education early in life.

The Mother & Wife
Super-dynamic and energetic since relocating to Houston in 1990, you have to wear running shoes to keep pace with Jalene who starts her day early to have coffee with her husband Architect, Jermayn Mack, and to tend to their busy athletes, 18 year-old daughter Sydney Elise a beast of a soccer player, and 10 year-old son Justin Jermayn a national track runner and little league football player.

The Attorney
Destined to be either a political reporter or a politician as she struggled with the thought, Jalene majored in Political Science and minored in Mass Communications receiving her Bachelor of Art’s Degree from Xavier University of New Orleans in 1990. Still a constant desire for a career in the arts, she received her Juris Doctorate from Thurgood Marshall School of Law at Texas Southern University in May, 1993 and was admitted to the bar thereafter.

Bridging her passion for the entertainment industry and sustaining a living, she opened her own practice in 1998, The Law Office of Jalene M. Mack, and among other matters has provided clients with competent service, affordable fees and quick response in the areas of Entertainment Law regarding film, television, theater, music, books Trademark/Copyright registration and small business as her primary and current practice areas ever since.

Her present and/or former clientele list reads like an all-star line-up: Comedic Entertainer, Best Selling Author, Talk/Game Show Host and Fashion Mogul Steve Harvey; Powerhouse Manager/Producer Rushion McDonald; Oxygen’s Billy Sorrells, Actress Wendy Raquel Robinson; Comedian/Actor Thomas Miles aka Nephew Tommy; Gospel Sensation Kim Burrell, WEtv’s Jolanda Jones, Actress/Author Robin Givens; Grammy Winner/Former Destiny’s Child member LaToya Luckett, Actress Vivica A. Fox; TNT Sports Commentator/ Houston Rockets’ Star Guard Kenny Smith; WNBA Comets Two-Time Champion Forward Yolanda Moore; Host of Soul Train/Comedian Mystro Clark; Comedians Kiana Dancie, Shawty Shawty, Billy D. Washington, Shawn Harris; Football Great Broderick Thomas, Tennessee Titan Steve Jackson; SWV’s Tamara Taj George, Actor Carl Anthony Payne, Filmmakers Greg Carter and Datari Turner; Dr. Phil/The Doctors Show Experts Debra & Brandon Knauss; TV Executive Kathy Sapp and a host of others.

Although Mack is mainly an Entertainment Attorney today, she has built a solid career record and an outstanding professional reputation through Booker T. Morris, III & Associates, P.C., Associate Attorney; Chicago Title Insurance Co., Attorney Escrow Officer; Gulf Coast Legal Foundation n/k/a Lone Star Legal Foundation, Law Clerk; and acquired ample experience as an intern with the Department of Justice, U.S. Trustee’s Office and Former New Orleans Mayor now Urban League National President, Attorney Marc H. Morial.

The Actress, Playwright & Producer
If you miss Jalene in the courtroom, you may catch her on a stage, TV or in a movie. In the midst of a 20 plus-year law career, Jalene has been able to merge her many other talents. Jalene’s most recent and notable acting projects to date include roles in Nexus Films’ My B.F.F., Fortress Production Group’s Lucky Girl, Warner Brother’s Batman V. Superman: Dawn of Justice, Wayne Slaten’s Osprey, Weinstein Company’s  Hurricane Season, Maverick Entertainment’s A Gangland Love Story, KNWS Channel 51’s As for Me & My House, Warner Brothers DVD release of Mike Jones: The American Dream, WB’s film Treasure in Tha Hood,  The Madam’s Family: The Truth About Canal Street Brothel, The Great Divide currently running on Centric and Netflix; and as Jasmine in her 1st self-written/produced play, Off Hollywood: The Play, both performances earned her a standing ovation. She has starred in ten theater productions in all including the long-running national touring play, There’s One in Every Family starring Shirley Murdock. Let’s not forget the role that made her a Houston spokesperson icon, The Fiesta Mart Lady.

The Writer
In all of Jalene’s busyness, she has managed to also pen a book. With all the hats she wears particularly as an entertainment attorney and a producing playwright, it is no surprise that her industry peers often times call upon her for how-to advice. Most often the questions are routinely the same: “How do I copyright?” or “How do I set up my production company?” These questions are really the same for most genres of entertainment so the answers to the questions are just as beneficial to those in music, film or television as well and the book reflects such. The working title of this industry quick reference guide is “From Script to Screen—A Helpful Guide for Actors, Playwrights and Filmmakers” and is expected to be released early next year.

Public Speaker
Pulling from her own life experiences and turning her passion for the arts into a business, Jalene has a gift to enlighten, encourage and energize children and young adults with her positive messages centered around being phenomenal, building relationships, knowing your power, and living outside the box. She is constantly sought after as a guest speaker for schools, churches, entertainment and CLE conferences, and other organizations to offer words of legal and business advice or deliver positive and impactful messages of empowerment.

The Founder, Executive Director/Artistic Director
Aside from all of her accomplishments, one of her proudest is Mack Performing Arts Collective, Inc. (MPAC) a 501 (C) 3 non-profit corporation founded by her January 24, 2011. Realizing she had invaluable knowledge as a business woman, entertainment lawyer, playwright, producer and actress, having a circle of high profile clients, industry colleagues and contacts ranging from all facets of performing arts, and having resources most often times out of reach of others were right at her fingertips, this was the opportunity to give back to her community, expand the growth of the performing arts industry, and make dreams come true. MPAC prides itself on procuring Hollywood celebrities to give back by teaching free to low costs education workshops to children and young artists in the areas of acting, film & video production, stand-up comedy, and playwriting. Kim Fields, Faizon Love, Ella Joyce, Roland Martin, Kym Whitley, Sherri Shepherd, Golden Brooks, Malik Yoba, Wendy Raquel Robinson, Gary Owen and Guy Torry are past celebrity guest instructors. MPAC also provides business panel discussions on television and film led by industry experts, comedy showcases and stand-up comedy series, and productions including a jazz show and theater.
